The Lawson Street Project is a supported housing scheme offering accommodation for single homeless people between the ages of sixteen and twenty five. The project caters for both males and females and has sixteen self contained furnished flats which are spread over four floors. The project does not offer personal or nursing care but will look at individuals needs to see if the project is suitable for them with external help.
The flats are offered on a six month assured short hold tenancy and residents are requested to work with their support worker and staff at the scheme to ensure they learn the necessary skills for independent living. If a resident does not feel ready to move on after six months, they can remain at the project for up to two years (as long as they are following the terms of the tenancy agreement and are engaging with the support on offer.)
The project is staffed twenty four hours a day and each resident is allocated a support worker who will meet with them regularly to work on a support plan and help with housing and benefit issues and general life skills. The project also has links with agencies that can provide more specialist support in areas such as health, education and employment.
How to apply
The project does not offer direct access and currently all nominations are made via Preston City Council. If anyone wishes to apply they are advised to contact the project for advice and further information, or get in contact with Moving On or Preston City Council.
There is a standard application and referral form and two references will be sought. Potential residents will be informed about the project and its aims during an informal interview and a standard needs and risk assessment will be conducted. Feedback is available after interview and if successful a move in date will be arranged and the resident will work with their support worker to formulate a support plan in order to achieve their goals.
