Braintree Foyer has 32 bed spaces in 9 cluster flats, with shared kitchen, toilet, and bathroom facilities. The Foyer is staffed 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.
One cluster with two rooms is specifically designed for disabled residents. We house young people in housing need between the ages of 16-25, who also require support and are motivated to seek training, education and employment.
Residents live on condition of a 7 to 28 day Licence To Occupy, this is reviewed formerly reviewed before each renewal.
One condition of residency is that all residents sign up to and participate in a personal development plan. This is done through key worker sessions, which include Support Needs and Risk Assessment.
Referrals
The overwhelming majority of referrals are made via Braintree Council’s Homelessness Department. This is the best option as the Council operate a joint referral procedure with other supported housing providers in the district.
However SAHA application forms are available from the project for direct referrals.
Services at the Foyer
The Job Club is compulsory for those not in education training and employment. It is run in partnership with Connexions and includes a 10 week programme to develop skills in the jobs market, such as CV writing, Job Applications, Telephone manners, interview techniques etc. It is also a place where residents receive:
- coaching in applying for jobs, or are
- advice about education and training facilities in the area.
Residents are currently signing up for the Learning Power Awards, which is evidence based City & Guilds qualifications similar to NVQ's. This is in partnership with Braintree College.
It currently includes Health & Safety In The Home, Money Management, Drug Awareness, Alcohol Awareness, Food Safety, and Sexual Health. These courses are run by outside agencies such as the CAB, NHS, and EYPDAS.
